The Confederation of Africa Football referees’ arm released the final list of match-officials to handle the 2019 edition of Afcon, scheduled for Egypt.
Uganda’s Fifa ranked assistant referee Mark Ssonko prominently features on the list of 30, which has five other Cecafa region officials.
The list of referees has only four Cecafa region officials out of a total of 26.
Ssonko’s inclusion on Caf appointment at the Egypt tournament brings the total number of Ugandans to five, after Edgar Watson- the Fufa Chief Executive Officer. Others are Dixon Okello and Leila Nankya, who were named on the security and protocol committees, respectively, while Andrew Jackson Oryada will work under the media committee.
Ssonko is the first assistant referee to make the list since the days of celebrated Ali Tomusange and later referee Muhamed Segonga.
The Total Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2019 is set to run from June 21 to July 19.
