Coach Edward Golola returned to Vipers SC as the technical head – his third time in the same post in as many years. The Venons – a rejuvenated side edged Proline FC 1-0 in the Pilsner Super8 Championship, played at the StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo on July 31.
After assuming the new role of Head coach, all eyes were on Golola and the assistant Richard Wasswa as they took over the technical management of the Kitende based outfit.
Golola has been the venom’s head coach twice in 2019-2010 and later between 2014 -15. He worked under Kenyan tactician Micheal ‘Nam’ Ouma as assistant coach before replacing him ahead of the kick-off of the 2019/20 season.
According to the club website, the pair that has a profound legacy was crowned champions of the Uganda Super League in 2010, 2015 and 2018.
The club management was keenly looking at how best the celebrated duo can steer the Kitende team after the highly rated Mexican national Javier Martinez Espinosa was fired last season for failure to meet the expectation.
Other members entrusted with the responsibility of taking the club forward include Edward Sali as the second assistant coach, Moses Oloya as goal keeping coach; Ram Nyakana Mpuga as fitness coach and Mathius Kassaga as the physiotherapist.
The only goal of the match in the game against Proline came in the 24th minute from star Denis Mwemezi.
However the club assistant coach Wasswa was not up for the quick praise yet.
“Although, we advanced to the quarter finals, we still need to improve,” he was quoted as saying.
Club president Lawrence Mulindwa will be assessing the significance of the new appointments in relation to general performance of the club and what precedent the win will set for the rest of the season.
Other clubs in action at the Pilsner Super8 tournament include
Wakiso Giants v KCCA FC in action on August 6 as well as Mbarara City against URA but Onduparaka and Tooro United tussle it out on August 4.
