SC Villa go to direct polls for the first time in as many years, with Hon. Medard Lubega Ssegona and Dennis Mbidde Ssebugwawo tussling it out for the top-most leadership position.
Villa – Uganda’s record league winners with 16 trophies, has for some time, been on a descending trend in its overall performance, mainly due to a leadership gap.
However, Ssegona, who doubles as the Busiro East representative in the Uganda Parliament, believes his ascending to the Jogoos top-most office, would offer an opportunity for the creation of unity and harmony in the different ranks of the club.
“I have been a silent supporter of SC Villa since I was born. I didn’t want to show-up….but now; it’s the time for me to come up.
“My immediate target would be uniting all club fans and embarking on a countrywide recruitment exercise. Villa is a big brand and I would go for fans of different categories….
“Don’t be surprised that President (Yoweri) Museveni or any other top government official as well as that man or woman down in the village would be amongst the (first) recruits,” predicted Ssegona during an interview with this reporter on Tuesday.
Ssegona, who launched his manifesto at Kati Kati Restaurant in Kampala on Monday, added that he intended to work with all Villa supporters – especially assigning them duties depending on their specialties.
“For instance the new club administration would utilize marketers to establish a firm income base…The club is going turn-around and play as a role model for Sports in our country. I pray that all voters rally behind me,” he requested.
Ssegona emphasized that it was important to create functional structures within the club management systems so as to promote transparence at Villa Park.
“We have to create systems that are functional at all levels. The technical team as well as playing staff has to feel and enjoy the best atmosphere at Villa Park – a situation that should remain in place irrespective of whether I am still in charge or someone else takes over from me,” he vowed.
