The Qatar Central Bank has unveiled a FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 commemorative banknote. The event was attended by His Excellency Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al Thani, Qatar’s Central Bank Governor, H.E. Hassan Al Thawadi, Secretary General, Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, and other important dignitaries.

During his opening speech, Al Thani said the note celebrates Qatar’s hard work and dedication in hosting the first FIFA World Cup in the Middle East and Arab world.
He further stated that the Governor highlighted the strategic collaboration between the Central Bank and FIFA to issue the distinguished and historical commemorative note, which bears the logo mark of this year’s World Cup and features the 60,000-capacity Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor and the 80,000-capacity Lusail Stadium in Lusail – both in Qatar.
Al Thani presented the process for creating the note, which reflects Qatar’s cultural heritage and football history. It is the first commemorative note produced by the Central Bank to be made from polymer. The presentation included a short film about Qatar and the contribution of Qatar’s Central Bank to the development of the country’s economy.
Al Thani also discussed the measures taken by the Bank to develop banking and payment systems in Qatar in order to provide the best services for citizens, residents and visitors.
Al Thani thanked members and FIFA for the strategic partnership. He also thanked the Qatar Central Bank’s team behind this historic achievement.
