The Stanbic Uganda Cup draws were held at the Fufa house on Tuesday March 30. Sonia Karamagi an official at Stanbic Bank, Daniel Kayongo of Plascon paints, Bernard Bainamani, the CEO of the Uganda Premier League, Aisha Nalule and Humphrey Mandu, both Fufa officials were on hand to draw the lots.
However, unlike before, fewer teams are competing in this year’s tournament, with the exact number being 32. The peak of the round is expected to involve URA FC and Mbarara City. During the teams’ last meeting, the result was a draw, yet considering URA’s latest form, they are favourites to beat Mbarara to the finish line.
On the other hand, URA will be desperate to do well in this tournament, because they have not won a single domestic trophy since 2014. In fact, it was the Uganda Cup at the time, after they edged KCCA FC during the shoot-out, following a 2-2 draw in regulation time.
The round of 32 fixtures will be played between April 5th and 12th over two legs. In other fixtures that were drawn, the nine-time champions SC Villa will battle it out with Ndejje University while the 2016 winners, Vipers SC, take on Busoga United. KCCA FC, who begin life with coach Mike Mutebi, who was relieved of his duties on Monday 29th, will face Nyamityobora.
